About the SCELC Wiley Agreement

This open access agreement enables authors at 65 participating institutions to publish articles using an open access license at no cost in more than 1800 hybrid and fully open access Wiley journals.

Authors with grant funds available are asked to pay a deeply discounted open access publishing fee. Authors who do not have grant funds available can publish open access at no cost to them.

Multi-payer OA Funding Workflow

• For hybrid journals: start at Choice #1: 
  • retain copyright and publish Open Access with CC-BY or CC-BY-NC/ND use terms OR publish closed access and cede copyright to Wiley
• For open access journals or publishing OA in a hybrid journal: Choice #2: 
  • If you have grant funding for this research, we ask that you use your grant funding to pay a discounted Open Access Article Publication Charge (15% discount + $1000 APC subsidy)
  • If you don’t have grant funding available for the APC, we encourage you to choose to publish OA anyway, and the cost will be covered by library subscription fees

Step by step

1. Corresponding author indicates primary affiliation with an eligible institution at submission

   1. At submission, author confirms funding source i.e. makes choice #2
   2. At acceptance, author confirms funding sources, institutional affiliation, whether grant funding is available, and specifies payment details to pay the remainder of the APC (if applicable), chooses a Creative Commons reuse license, and signs Wiley's license to publish
3. Hybrid Journal Article Process | Hybrid journal open funding workflow (pdf)
   1. At acceptance: Choice #1: Author chooses an open access license (or opts out of Open Access)
      1. For OA articles, the author confirms funding sources and the 15% discount and $1000 subsidy covered by library subscriptions is applied automatically, author confirms "Select open access with a discounted price" to proceed to the next two screens where they may request full coverage
      2. Choice #2: Author specifies whether funding is available to pay the APC
         1. When funding is available, author specifies details to pay the remainder of the APC
         2. When no grant funding is available, the author so indicates and library subscriptions cover the full cost 
      3. Author chooses a Creative Commons reuse license, and signs Wiley's license to publish
